Without giving much thought, or no thought at all, about my future life, income and prosperity, I left the science degree that began my professional life to become an actress. I thought, I could always go back waitressing if I needed to. I never did.  Instead I followed my heart through many films, theatre and twelve years as main cast on the multi award winning series Blue Heelers.

I remember driving down Victoria Parade, Melbourne,  wondering do I turn left to go home, or do I drive straight ahead? It was one of those moments I've done all my life where I dared myself to do something. I drove straight ahead and my life changed irrevocably. There was no familial or social precedent for me entering the film industry. It was my love of stories that drove me. The enchantment of stories.

The stories we tell ourselves as a nation, as communities, as individuals. What are we telling our children? Our future? The Old Ones say we only get given the stories we are ready for. What is Australia ready for now?

I've taught both my daughters to stand on the edge, not to be thinking of survival, of the apparent safety of the white picket fence, but to follow their hearts and have the courage to stay hungry and foolish.

For therein lies expansion, strength and growth. Of the Self. Of our Nation. Of our Planet. There's so much possibility for enormous change from willing and extraordinary human beings. All things must pass through the heart and there lies our greatness.

How will we ever know what’s possible, for ourselves and the earth we live upon, unless we give it a go? Imagine if we didn’t.
